Election Commission Announces By-Election Dates for 8 Assembly Seats Across 7 States, Voting on 11 Nov

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Along with the Bihar Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India has announced the dates for by-elections to eight assembly seats in seven states. Voting for the by-elections will take place on November 11th, and the results will be declared on November 14th.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said in a press conference on Monday that by-elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Telangana, Punjab, Mizoram, and Odisha. By-elections will be held in the Budgam and Nagrota assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir, Anta in Rajasthan, Ghatshila in Jharkhand, Jubilee Hills in Telangana, Tarn Taran in Punjab, Dampa in Mizoram, and Nuapada in Odisha.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah resigned from his seat in the Budgam Assembly constituency on Monday. Deciding to remain an MLA from Ganderbal, he made it clear that he will no longer contest elections outside his ancestral constituency. Following his conviction by a court, Kanwar Lal Meena was disqualified from his Assembly membership, leaving the Anta Assembly constituency in Rajasthan vacant.
Ghatsila constituency in Jharkhand fell vacant due to the death of Ramdas Soren, Jubilee Hills constituency in Telangana fell vacant due to the death of Maganti Gopinath, Tarn Taran constituency in Punjab fell vacant due to the death of Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal, Dampa constituency in Mizoram fell vacant due to the death of Lalrintluanga Saila and Nuapada constituency in Odisha fell vacant due to the death of Rajendra Dholakia.
By-elections will be held in a single phase in eight assembly constituencies across seven states, with polling on November 11 and counting on November 14.
Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated that elections for all 243 seats in Bihar will be held in two phases. Voting for the first phase will take place on November 6th and the second phase on November 11th. The election results will be declared on November 14th. He stated that the Election Commission has completed all preparations for the elections. He further stated that violence will not be tolerated during the elections and that fake news will also be closely monitored.
