New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): After the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, the process of election for the post of Vice President has now formally started. The Union Home Ministry notified Dhankhar's resignation through its gazette issued on Tuesday.

Under Article 324 of the Constitution, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has the authority to conduct elections for the post of Vice President. This election is conducted under the “Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections Act, 1952” and “Presidential and Vice Presidential Election Rules, 1974”. The Election Commission has started preparations for the election of the new Vice President. The election schedule will be announced soon after the preliminary preparations are completed. The main activities before the announcement of the election schedule are as follows. Preparation of the electoral college, which includes elected and nominated members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Appointment of Chief Electoral Officer and Assistant Electoral Officers. Compilation and dissemination of background information of all the Vice Presidential elections held so far. The Election Commission has clarified that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure fair, free and transparent elections for the post of Vice President.

These names are being considered for the post of Vice President

keeping in mind the upcoming Bihar elections, then the names of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh and late Karpoori Thakur's son Ram Narayan Thakur are being discussed. Apart from this, many people are also taking the name of Nitish Kumar, but Nitish Kumar is hardly ready for the post of Vice President. Secondly, his health cannot be considered good for the post of Rajya Sabha Chairman. Among these, the name of Rajnath Singh is at the top. Although, there seems to be no basis behind making Singh the Vice President. Because he keeps clearing many paths for the BJP. He has maintained his importance in the center. The name of Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari is also being taken among the contenders for the post of Vice President.

Let us tell you that President Draupadi Murmu has accepted the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar from the post of Vice President on Tuesday. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Dhankhar good health. Prime Minister Modi wrote on the social media platform X, "Jagdeep Dhankhar ji has had the opportunity to serve the country in many roles including the Vice President of India. I wish him good health." India's 14th Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday resigned from the post of Vice President citing health concerns. In a letter to President Draupadi Murmu, he said that he is leaving the post with immediate effect giving priority to health. On July 16, 2022, the BJP declared Dhankhar as the Vice Presidential candidate on behalf of the NDA. In the elections held on August 6, 2022, he defeated opposition candidate Margaret Alva by a huge margin.
