Ganderbal (The Uttam Hindu): An encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Arahama area of Ganderbal district in Kashmir continued for the second day on Wednesday. So far, one terrorist has been neutralized, while 1–2 more are suspected to be hiding in the area.

According to the Indian Army, intermittent firing took place during the night of March 31, following which security forces strategically reinforced their cordon. The firing by terrorists was effectively countered, resulting in the elimination of one militant.

The joint operation is being carried out by the 2 Assam Regiment of the Army, along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force.

Considering the seriousness of the situation, the Inspector General (IG) of Kashmir has reached the Arahama area to personally monitor the operation. After fresh gunfire was reported on Wednesday morning, additional forces have been deployed, and the entire area has been placed on high alert.

The cordon and search operation (CASO), which began on Tuesday, is still ongoing. Officials stated that the primary objective of the operation is to ensure the safety of civilians. The operation will continue until the area is completely cleared of terrorists.

As a precaution, all routes around the encounter site have been sealed to prevent any possibility of escape.
