Encounter breaks out in Kathua, security forces corner three terrorists

Srinagar (The Uttam Hindu) – Security forces have launched a major anti-terrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district. An encounter is underway between security forces and terrorists in the dense forests of Kamadh Nala in the Billawar area. This is believed to be the first major terrorist encounter of 2026.


According to sources, three Pakistani terrorists affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed are hiding in the area. Around 4 p.m., locals spotted a suspected terrorist in the Kamadh Nala area, prompting the police's Special Operations Group (SOG) to launch a search operation. Finding themselves surrounded, the terrorists opened fire, prompting security forces to retaliate.


Inspector General of Police (IG) Jammu, Bhim Sen Tuti, confirmed the encounter via social media. He stated that Inspector General (IG) Jammu and SSP (Kathua) Mohita Sharma are personally monitoring the operation. Security forces have cordoned off the entire area and a thorough search operation is underway. According to officials, the situation is under control and the operation against the terrorists is continuing.
