Fatehpur (The Uttam Hindu) : Tensions flared in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district after a Muslim youth allegedly posted a derogatory comment against Lord Ram on social media, sparking outrage among local Hindu groups, particularly members of the Bajrang Dal. According to police sources, the post—considered highly offensive by many—was uploaded late Monday night and began circulating quickly, drawing angry reactions from residents and local religious groups. The Bajrang Dal, a Hindu nationalist organization affiliated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), immediately staged a protest outside the local police station on Tuesday morning, demanding strict action against the accused.

Controversial Post Goes Viral

The youth, identified as a resident of a nearby locality in Fatehpur city, is accused of sharing an objectionable meme and caption targeting Lord Ram, a deeply revered figure in Hinduism. The post reportedly used abusive language, which many termed as an attack on religious sentiments. As the post gained traction online, community leaders alerted the police, and members of the Bajrang Dal reached the police station in large numbers, shouting slogans and insisting on the arrest of the accused.

Police Response and Legal Action

Fatehpur Superintendent of Police (SP) [Insert Name] confirmed that an FIR (First Information Report) has been registered against the youth under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including:

Section 153A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion)

Section 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings)

Section 505(2) (Statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes)

“We have taken cognizance of the matter and arrested the individual. Law will take its course. We urge people to maintain peace and not indulge in any acts that could disturb communal harmony,” the SP said.

Bajrang Dal’s Demands and Warning

The Bajrang Dal leadership in the district warned of intensified protests if strict action is not taken swiftly. “We will not tolerate any insult to our deities. This isn’t just about one post—this is about sending a message that such behavior will not be accepted,” The group has also demanded that the police investigate whether the act was part of a larger conspiracy to incite religious tensions.

Appeal for Communal Harmony

While the incident has stirred emotions, local authorities and community elders have appealed for calm. Security has been tightened in sensitive areas, and local cyber units have been deployed to monitor further inflammatory content. Religious leaders from both communities have urged their followers to not fall for provocation and to let the law handle the situation. “We must not let one person's actions disturb the peace of the entire city,” said a local imam, condemning the post but also calling for restraint.

Ongoing Investigation

Police have taken the accused into custody for questioning and are examining his social media activity to determine if there are other such posts or associations. Meanwhile, social media platforms have been asked to take down the offensive content and assist in the investigation. The incident underscores the growing sensitivity around religious content on social media platforms and highlights the urgent need for responsible digital behavior. Authorities are working to ensure that peace prevails in Fatehpur, while the legal process takes its due course against the accused.
