Fire at government hospital in cuttack kills 10 patients, odisha CM visits site
A fire in the Trauma Care ICU of SCB Medical College in Cuttack, Odisha, killed 10 patients. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited the site and ordered a judicial inquiry.

Cuttack (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic incident occurred early Monday morning in Cuttack, Odisha, when a fire broke out in the Trauma Care ICU of SCB Medical College. The blaze erupted around 2:30 am and claimed the lives of 10 patients. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi confirmed the deaths.
After receiving information about the incident, fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. Several patients were evacuated and shifted to safer areas during the rescue operation.
Following the incident, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited the site and said, “A fire broke out at the Trauma Care Center of SCB Medical College, which affected the Trauma ICU, an adjacent ICU and a ward on the first floor where 23 patients were undergoing treatment. Seven patients died on the spot, while three more died after being shifted to the hospital. Our security and medical staff actively participated in the rescue operation.”
The Chief Minister expressed deep grief over the incident and extended condolences to the families of the victims. He also announced compensation of ₹25 lakh for the families of each deceased person from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).
Majhi met with patients undergoing treatment and assured them of their safety. He also directed officials of the Chief Minister’s office and the medical department to ensure the best possible treatment for patients shifted from the ICU.
The Chief Minister has ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident.
Meanwhile, Ashwathy S., Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, said that the government’s immediate priority is to provide care and assistance to the affected patients. She added that doctors have been instructed to provide full medical support to those undergoing treatment.
