Google CEO Sundar Pichai announces major partnership with AIIMS, discusses key AI issues with PM Modi

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai arrived in India to attend the AI Impact Summit held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. During his visit, he met Narendra Modi and held detailed discussions on technology, innovation, and the growing role of artificial intelligence.
Alongside these high-level meetings, Pichai announced a landmark collaboration between Google and AIIMS, a move expected to significantly strengthen India’s healthcare ecosystem.
Google–AIIMS partnership set to transform healthcare services
Before attending the summit sessions, Sundar Pichai revealed that Google and AIIMS will work closely on advanced AI-driven solutions. This partnership is expected to directly benefit millions of patients receiving treatment at AIIMS, as well as doctors involved in diagnosis and care.
He stated that artificial intelligence will help generate highly accurate medical reports, assisting doctors in decision-making and improving overall efficiency. Pichai clarified that the project is currently in its early stage, but its long-term potential could bring wide-ranging benefits across the healthcare sector.
AI to support education, hospitals, and governance
Beyond healthcare, the Google CEO highlighted the growing role of AI in education and public administration. He explained that AI can help identify the most effective learning methods for students and streamline hospital management systems.
Pichai also emphasized that governments can use AI to improve service delivery and make administrative processes more efficient, ensuring faster and better access to public services. He noted that Google is focused on developing technologies that can rapidly enable new and practical solutions.
Meeting with PM Modi and announcement of Google I/O 2026
Earlier, Sundar Pichai met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss strengthening India–Google cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence. During the meeting, PM Modi said that AI is developing rapidly in India and collaboration with global technology leaders like Google can open new avenues for growth.
Sharing his experience, Pichai described the interaction as highly positive, with discussions covering AI use in healthcare, agriculture, and language support. On the same platform, Google also announced the dates for its annual developers’ conference Google I/O 2026, which will be held on 19 and 20 May in California.
