India’s GST Collection Rises 6.5% in August 2025, Crosses ₹1.86 Lakh Crore Amid Signs of Economic Strength

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Indicating continued economic resilience, India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in August 2025 recorded a 6.5% year-on-year increase, reaching ₹1,86,315 crore, as per the latest data released by the Ministry of Finance on Monday.
In comparison, GST collections for August 2024 stood at ₹1,74,962 crore.
Key Components of August GST Collection:
CGST (Central GST): ₹34,076 crore
SGST (State GST): ₹42,854 crore
IGST (Integrated GST): ₹48,639 crore (including ₹24,239 crore collected on imports)
Cess: ₹11,392 crore (including ₹1,774 crore collected on imports)
The Ministry noted that domestic transactions alone witnessed a 9.6% increase, contributing ₹1,36,962 crore to the total GST collection. However, IGST from imports saw a slight dip of 1.2%, totaling ₹49,354 crore.
After accounting for refunds, the net GST revenue in August 2025 was ₹1,66,956 crore, reflecting a 10.7% increase from ₹1,50,791 crore recorded in August 2024. The total refund issued in August 2025 was ₹19,359 crore, nearly 20% lower than last year, which contributed to the increase in net revenue.
April–August FY 2025-26 Snapshot:
Gross GST Revenue: ₹10,04,414 crore (up 9.9% YoY)
Net GST Revenue (after refunds): ₹8,78,096 crore (up 8.8% YoY)
The Ministry stated that this consistent growth in GST revenues reflects robust domestic consumption and improved tax compliance.
