Gujarat: Harsh Sanghavi, Known for ‘Bulldozer Action,’ Appointed Deputy CM at 40

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, who recently made headlines for leading the bulldozer drive against Bangladeshi infiltrators, has now received a major promotion. In Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s new cabinet, Sanghavi has been appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat. Seen as one of the most dynamic young leaders in the BJP, Sanghavi’s elevation is being viewed as the party’s move to project a youth-centric face in the state. Political observers believe that if the BJP retains power in the 2027 assembly elections, Sanghavi could potentially emerge as a future Chief Ministerial contender.
Journey from Student Leader to Deputy CM
Born on 8 January 1985, Harsh Sanghavi entered politics early and became the youngest MLA in Gujarat when he was elected from Majura constituency (Surat) in 2012 at the age of 27. Belonging to the Jain community, Sanghavi has been active in public life since the age of 15. After serving in the BJP Yuva Morcha for several years, he steadily rose through the party ranks, earning recognition for his dedication and discipline.
Known for Clean Image and Firm Action
As Minister of State for Home, Sanghavi also handled departments such as Industries, Transport, Youth Affairs, and Sports. He gained prominence for his tough decisions on law and order particularly for his campaign against illegal settlements and Bangladeshi infiltrators, during which bulldozers were deployed to clear encroachments. His decisive administrative style and corruption-free image have earned him the trust of the BJP’s central leadership.
Major Cabinet Reshuffle Under Bhupendra Patel
In a swearing-in ceremony held at Gandhinagar, the Governor administered the oath of office and secrecy to 25 ministers in CM Bhupendra Patel’s revamped cabinet. Apart from Harsh Sanghavi, notable new faces include Arjun Modhwadia, Dr. Pradyumn Waja, Ramanbhai Solanki, Ishwar Singh, Manisha Vakil, Prafulla Panseria, and Rivaba Jadeja, wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja.
This reshuffle, coming ahead of the 2027 assembly elections, is seen as part of the BJP’s strategic preparation to balance youth energy with experienced leadership.
