Ganga Swells in Haridwar-Rishikesh: High Alert, Precautions Issued Amid Rising Waters; Watch VIDEO

Haridwar (The Uttam Hindu)- After the recent cloudburst and flash flood in Uttarkashi, the administration in Haridwar has also issued a high alert due to the water level of Ganga crossing the danger mark. The flow of river Ganga has increased due to continuous rain in many parts of Uttarakhand and the water level is expected to rise further. The Haridwar administration has forbidden people from going to the Ganga ghats and river banks, and has also kept relief and rescue teams ready.
Dinesh Kumar Punetha, Duty Officer of State Emergency Operations Center, has instructed Haridwar DM to take precautions. In a letter written to DM, it has been said that prompt on-site action and immediate exchange of information should be ensured in case of any disaster or accident. All the designated officers of Disaster Management IARS system and departmental nodal officers will be on high alert. Revenue Sub-Inspector, Village Development Officer, and Village Panchayat Officer will be present in their areas. All outposts, police stations will be on high alert with disaster related equipment and wireless. Mobile, phone of any officer, employee will not remain switched off. Officers will keep raincoats, umbrellas, torches, helmets and other necessary equipment in their vehicles. Arrangements of food items and medical facilities should be made for the stranded people. Ban on movement of tourists in high Himalayan areas during warnings of abnormal weather and heavy rains. Blockages in drains and culverts, culverts in city and town areas should be removed.

The water level and danger situation should be continuously monitored on the website of the Central Water Commission. On the other hand, Haridwar Police said that animals should not be allowed to go towards the river. Remove your vehicles from places where water suddenly comes and park them at safe places.
