Haridwar (The Uttam Hindu): The atmosphere at Haridwar's Har Ki Pauri is somewhat different these days. Security and strictness are increasing here ahead of Kumbh 2027. The latest development is the ongoing checking campaign to identify non-Hindus.

The pilgrim priests themselves have come forward and started this campaign, in which people working in shops and carts around the ghats are being asked to show their Aadhar cards.

According to locals, this initiative was initiated by the Shri Ganga Sabha. They say that Har Ki Pauri and the surrounding area are considered extremely sacred, and it is important to monitor activities there. Especially before major religious events like the Kumbh Mela, they want to ensure that only Hindus engage in business or other activities in the ghat area.

During the inspections, shopkeepers and street vendors are being asked for their identification. Aadhaar cards are used to determine their religious affiliation. Non-Hindus found to be Hindus are being asked not to do business in the ghat area. While some people are feeling uneasy about this campaign, pilgrim priests are calling it a matter of faith.

Saints and priests say that in recent times, there have been instances where some individuals have been found to be hurting the sentiments of devotees. This has led to controversy and a vitiated atmosphere. They allege that the presence of such elements at the holy site compromises religious decorum.

The Sant Samaj says that the Kumbh is not an ordinary event, but rather a major festival involving the faith of millions of devotees. Haridwar is considered the gateway to the land of the gods. Therefore, maintaining the sanctity of the ghats and the Kumbh area is everyone's responsibility. Therefore, it is necessary to restrict the entry and trade of non-Hindus.
