Udhampur (The Uttam Hindu) : An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the dense forests of Basantgarh, a remote and hilly area of Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. In this encounter, security forces killed one terrorist, who is said to be the leader of the group, while three terrorists are still surrounded. The killed terrorist and his companions have been confirmed to be associated with Pakistan-based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM).

These terrorists have weapons like the most modern M-4 carbine. After the encounter, the security forces have surrounded the entire area and the operation is still going on.

According to security agencies, the operation has been named 'Operation Bihali' and it is a joint operation of the Army's White Knight Corps and Jammu and Kashmir Police. Based on intelligence, security forces started a search operation in the Bihali forests of Basantgarh on Thursday morning. At around 8:30 am, when the terrorists came face to face, firing started from both sides.

Security forces say that three terrorists are still trapped in the cordon, who are likely to be killed. Additional security forces have been sent from various directions to close all the escape routes of the terrorists.

During the operation, some obstacles are being faced due to dense fog and rain in the hilly area, but the security forces are carrying forward the operation with full vigilance and coordination.

This operation is being considered a major success of the security forces in terms of security arrangements in view of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra (which is starting from July 3).
