Bengaluru (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic road accident claimed seven lives early Friday near M. Satyavara village in Hoskote taluk of Bengaluru Rural district in Karnataka. The crash occurred on the Hoskote–Dabaspet National Highway and involved a canter truck, a motorcycle, and an XUV car.

According to preliminary police reports, the car travelling from Kolar towards Devanahalli first rammed into a motorcycle ahead of it. The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, after which the car collided with a canter truck, triggering a deadly chain accident.

Six occupants of the car and the motorcyclist died on the spot. The impact was so severe that the car was completely mangled. Police said all six car occupants were residents of Kothanur in Bengaluru. Inspector General of Police (Central) Labhu Ram, who visited the site, confirmed that seven people lost their lives in the series of collisions. The vehicles were removed and the bodies were shifted to hospital.

Authorities have identified six of the deceased and are in the process of contacting their families. Efforts are underway to establish the identity of the remaining victim. Police said it is being examined whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol, though no conclusion has been drawn yet.

After the crash, the truck and the motorcycle crossed the divider and fell onto the opposite carriageway, while the badly damaged XUV came to a halt nearly 500 metres away from the initial impact point. Personnel from Sulibele police station reached the spot and began the investigation. Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police Chandrakant also inspected the site. Initial findings indicate overspeeding as the primary cause of the accident. The bodies have been sent to the government hospital in Hoskote for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, local residents raised serious concerns about the highway’s design and construction quality. They alleged that the stretch between Sadappanahalli and Kamalipura bridge lacks scientific planning and claimed that an engineer had earlier flagged design flaws during construction.
