Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): In a tragic incident in Thane, Maharashtra on Monday morning, five passengers died after falling from a Mumbai local train. The incident took place between Diva and Mumbai railway stations at around 9 am when several passengers fell from the moving train due to overcrowding in the train. 10 to 12 people are feared to have fallen in the accident, many of whom are seriously injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the train was jam packed and passengers were not even getting space to stand inside. Many passengers were travelling by hanging on the doors. Meanwhile, due to the jerk in the speed of the train, some passengers lost their balance and fell on the track.

The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals. Central Railway has also confirmed that the accident took place near Mumbra station in Thane, when the train was going towards CSMT (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus). Local train services have been affected due to the accident.

At the time of the accident, a local train going to Kasara and the Pushpak Express were also passing through the same route. Some reports are claiming that some passengers have fallen from these trains as well. However, investigation is going on in this regard.

Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MP Naresh Mhaske called the accident extremely sad and said that the government is constantly increasing the number of trains, but the government is also responsible for the safety of passengers. He has called for a thorough investigation of the accident.

At the same time, BJP MLA Sanjay Kelkar called the accident unfortunate and worrying. He said that it is important to find out how these passengers fell - was it the crowd or some administrative lapse? He demanded to ensure the safety of the passengers and take appropriate action if any mistake has been made.

This accident once again raises questions about the crowd and security system of Mumbai local trains. The demand for improvement in this lifeline linked to the lives of millions of passengers has now become even more vocal. The railway administration has ordered an inquiry into the accident.
