Horrific accident on Purvanchal expressway, sleeper bus overturns; 7 passengers dead

Lucknow (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic road accident occurred in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh on Monday evening. A speeding sleeper coach bus suddenly lost control and overturned on the Purvanchal Expressway near Jaukhandi village in the Gosaiganj area. Seven passengers tragically died in this horrific accident, while more than 40 others were seriously injured. Chaos erupted at the scene.


Passengers were travelling from Panipat to Araria, the accident occurred near the toll plaza.

According to reports, the sleeper bus was carrying passengers from Panipat, Haryana, to Araria district in Bihar. Around 4:30 p.m., when the bus approached the toll plaza on the Purvanchal Expressway in the Gosaiganj area, the driver lost control due to the high speed, and the bus overturned. The bus overturned, causing widespread panic and chaos on the expressway. Bystanders immediately informed the police.


Rescue operations by police and disaster relief forces are underway; many injured are in critical condition.

Upon receiving the horrific news of the accident, local police and disaster management teams immediately rushed to the scene and began rescue and relief operations on a war footing. Police and rescue teams, after a tremendous effort, extricated the passengers trapped in the badly damaged bus. All the injured were immediately transported to nearby hospitals by ambulance. According to police officials, the condition of many of the injured hospitalized remains extremely critical, which has kept the administration on high alert.
