New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said in a medical update on Tuesday that Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi's condition is "absolutely stable." However, as a precaution, she remains hospitalized for observation and treatment.

According to a statement issued by the hospital, Sonia Gandhi was admitted at around 10 pm on Monday night after experiencing breathing problems. After a medical examination, doctors found that her bronchial asthma had slightly worsened, mainly due to the combined effect of the cold weather and the prevailing air pollution in the national capital. Dr. Ajay Swarup, Chairman of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, said that she has been admitted for observation and treatment as a precautionary measure. Currently, her condition is completely stable. She is responding well to treatment and is being given antibiotics and other supportive medications.

The hospital further stated that his health parameters are being closely monitored by the medical team. The decision on his discharge will be made by the treating doctors based on his clinical progress and is likely to be made in the next day or two. Following reports of his hospitalization late Monday night, this update from the hospital is expected to allay the concerns of party leaders and supporters.

Sonia Gandhi turned 79 last December. On December 28th, she participated in the party's 140th foundation day celebrations, where a flag-hoisting ceremony took place at Indira Bhawan in New Delhi. A day earlier, on December 27th, Sonia Gandhi attended the Congress Working Committee meeting at Indira Bhawan in New Delhi.
