New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India has successfully conducted its first-ever remote ultrasound examination on a patient located in Antarctica, more than 12,000 kilometers away, marking a major milestone in telemedicine and medical technology.

According to official information, AI-powered tele-robotic ultrasound technology was used to carry out the procedure. Medical experts sitting in Delhi remotely controlled a robotic arm holding the ultrasound probe at the Antarctic research station, enabling real-time imaging and diagnosis.

Officials from the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) stated that this was the first known deployment of a tele-robotic ultrasound system at an Antarctic research facility. The breakthrough ensures timely medical diagnosis for personnel stationed in extreme and remote environments where specialist doctors are not physically available.

This achievement highlights India’s growing capabilities in advanced healthcare innovation, artificial intelligence, and remote medical care, especially for challenging locations like Antarctica.
