New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In view of the rapidly deteriorating situation in West Asia, the Central Government has decided to conduct a high-level review. Soon after returning to Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair an important meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) tonight at 9:30 PM. The government is closely monitoring developments in the region and assessing possible impacts.

Over 8 million Indians in Gulf, advisory issued

More than 8 million Indian citizens reside in Gulf countries. In addition, a large number of Indian tourists and students are present in countries including Iran. In view of the current tensions, the Indian government has issued an advisory for its citizens and instructed embassies to remain alert. Ensuring the safety of all Indians remains the government’s top priority.

The meeting will be attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, along with other senior officials.

Economic impact and energy challenge

Instability in West Asia could also affect India’s economy. With concerns over possible disruption in crude oil supply and rising prices, the government is considering alternative energy sources. In recent months, India has reduced crude oil imports from Russia, making it necessary to frame a new strategy for energy security.

Due to Iran–Israel tensions, international air routes have also been affected. Several flights operating from India have either been diverted or temporarily suspended, impacting both passengers and airlines.

Deliberations on safe evacuation

India has previously carried out special operations to evacuate its citizens from conflict-hit regions. In the current situation, the government may consider possible evacuation plans and emergency arrangements. It is expected that the CCS meeting will hold detailed discussions on this issue.

The Prime Minister recently returned from a visit to Israel and subsequently toured Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. After completing his engagements, he will directly chair the security review meeting tonight in Delhi. The government’s message is clear — while appealing for peace and stability in the region, the safety of every Indian citizen remains the highest priority.
