New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India strongly criticized Pakistan at the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). Using the right to reply during the high-level segment on February 25, Indian diplomat Anupama Singh categorically rejected the allegations leveled by Pakistan and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Anupama Singh said that Pakistan continues to spread false propaganda, and its rhetoric reflects frustration and jealousy. She reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir was, is, and will remain an integral and inalienable part of India.

He clarified that the 1947 merger of Jammu and Kashmir with India was completely legal and final under the Indian Independence Act and international law. He also urged Pakistan to vacate the Indian territories it is "illegally occupying." The OIC was also criticized for becoming an "echo chamber" of one member country.

Referring to development work in Jammu and Kashmir, Singh mentioned the Chenab Rail Bridge, which is said to be the world's highest railway bridge. He said that if such projects are also being called "fake," it is like turning a blind eye to reality.

Prime Minister Modi inaugurated this bridge over the Chenab River on June 6, 2025. The 359-meter-high bridge plays a vital role in connecting Kashmir to India's extensive rail network.

Anupama Singh also said that Jammu and Kashmir's recent development budget is more than double the bailout package Pakistan requested from the International Monetary Fund. According to her, this reflects the rapid pace of development in the region, while Pakistan is grappling with economic challenges.

Responding to Pakistan's comments on democratic processes, the Indian representative said that it is difficult to hear discourse on democracy from a country where elected governments rarely complete their full terms. He pointed out that the recent Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed significant voter turnout, indicating that the people there reject the ideology of violence and terrorism and want to move forward on the path of development and stability.
