India urges this country to take strong stance against terrorism, EAM Jaishankar meets counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Polish Deputy Prime Minister Radoslaw Sikorski met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi on Monday. Jaishankar emphasized the challenges facing India from cross-border terrorism. He urged Poland to demonstrate zero tolerance for terrorism and not support the growth of terrorist infrastructure in India's neighborhood.
In his opening remarks during the meeting, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar noted that relations between India and Poland have progressed steadily, although they require constant attention. He said, “Deputy Prime Minister, you are no stranger to our region and are well aware of the long-standing challenges of cross-border terrorism. I hope this meeting will discuss some of your recent visits to the region. Poland must demonstrate zero tolerance for terrorism and not support the proliferation of terrorism in our neighborhood.”
Poland's Deputy Prime Minister visited Pakistan in October 2025 and mentioned Kashmir in a joint statement. The joint statement by the leaders of the two countries stated, "The Polish side provided information on the ongoing war in Ukraine, while the Pakistani side presented its position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. Both sides emphasized the need to seek peaceful solutions to all conflicts while fully respecting the principles of international law and the UN Charter." India had strongly criticized this statement.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also reiterated India's position on the Ukraine conflict. He noted that he and Sikorski were meeting at a time of considerable turmoil in the world and emphasized that the exchange of views and perspectives was beneficial, as India and Poland were two countries located in different regions, each with its own challenges and opportunities.
India's Foreign Minister said, "In New York in September last year and in Paris in January this year, I have openly shared my views on the Ukraine conflict and its impact. In doing so, I have also repeatedly stressed that selectively targeting India is both wrong and unjust."
Praising bilateral ties, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said, "Our bilateral relations have also progressed steadily, but they still require constant attention. India and Poland have traditionally enjoyed warm and friendly relations. In recent years, these have been marked by high-level political exchanges and vibrant economic and people-to-people ties."
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Poland in August 2024, during which bilateral relations were elevated to a strategic partnership. S. Jaishankar said Poland is one of India's largest trading partners in Central Europe. Trade between the two countries is approximately $7 billion.
S. Jaishankar said that India's investment in Poland has exceeded $3 billion, which has created many job opportunities for the people of Poland.
"Today we will review the Action Plan 2024-28, through which we aim to achieve the full potential of our strategic partnership. We will also discuss ways to advance our cooperation in trade and investment, defense and security technology, and digital innovation," he said.
