Jind (The Uttam Hindu): Jind, Haryana, is ushering in a new era of clean energy in the country. India's first hydrogen fuel plant is nearly ready and will be fully operational in the next 10-15 days. Final approvals (NOCs) are pending from several departments, including the Petroleum Ministry, which are expected soon.

The country's first hydrogen train will soon run, India's first hydrogen plant is ready; this train will run on this route. : The deficiencies found in the fire fighting system during the inspection of the plant are being rectified. Currently, the production of hydrogen gas has started in the plant and its testing is going on. This plant will produce 430 kg of hydrogen per day, which has cost around Rs 70 crore.

Under this pilot project, a Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) rake is being upgraded to hydrogen fuel. The hydrogen-powered train will initially run on the Jind-Gohana-Sonipat rail route (approximately 89 km). The train's speed will range from 110 to 140 km/h and it will be able to carry 2,638 passengers at a time. The hydrogen will be supplied from the Jind plant. The plant includes a fuel station with a storage capacity of 3,000 kg, a compressor, and two dispensers with pre-cooler integration for faster refueling.

This train will be based on hydrogen fuel cell technology, proving to be an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional diesel trains. The train's engine will emit water and steam instead of smoke, resulting in zero carbon emissions and a reduction in air pollution. India's first hydrogen train is considered a milestone in the country's green energy and clean transportation sector.
