Foreign Secretary visits Iranian Embassy, writes message in condolence book

On Thursday, India's Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, visited the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi. He expressed his deepest condolences on the passing of Iran's former Supreme Leader and signed the official condolence book. It is noteworthy that on February 28, 2026, Israel and the United States jointly launched a devastating and large-scale attack on Iran, which claimed the life of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In this highly sensitive and tense international environment, India has maintained a balanced diplomatic stance and clarified its position.

Is the government trapped under US pressure on oil and trade?

Amidst this international crisis, domestic politics has also heated up. Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia has described Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence as a very dangerous signal for the country. He seriously alleges that the US has been preparing for this devastating war for several months and was well aware that it would severely impact global oil supplies. Despite this, the US, under the guise of a trade agreement, persuaded India to buy cheaper oil from Russia. Sisodia directly questions whether the US has misled the Prime Minister, or whether the Prime Minister himself has made such a significant compromise with India's economic and national interests in order to appease the US.

Kharge raised tough questions on sinking of guest ship

Meanwhile, the main opposition party, the Congress, has launched a scathing and direct attack on the government's foreign policy. Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge has raised serious questions about the government's silence on the sinking of an Iranian ship in the Indian Ocean after being attacked by a US attack. Posting on the social media platform X, Kharge stated that the Iranian naval ship, "Iris Den," which sank after being hit by a US torpedo, was without any military equipment. He stated that the ship was not an intruder but an invited guest of India, returning peacefully after participating in the International Fleet Review 2026, held in Visakhapatnam from February 15 to 26. The opposition alleges that by remaining silent on this attack on its own guest ship, the government is grossly neglecting the country's strategic and national honor.
