New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The central government has warned Indian citizens about a dangerous fraud being perpetrated in the name of employment in Iran. Several recent cases have surfaced where Indians who traveled to Iran on false promises of employment have been kidnapped by criminal gangs and their families have been asked to pay hefty ransoms.

According to reports, fraudulent agents lure Indian citizens with lucrative jobs in other countries via Iran. They lure them with promises of easy transfers to other countries once they arrive in Iran.

But upon landing on Iranian soil, these Indian citizens encounter criminal gangs who take them hostage and then call their families in India, demanding ransom for their release.

Given this serious situation, the government has issued a stern warning. The advisory clearly states that all Indian citizens should be extremely cautious about any such employment offers. It is particularly important to note that the Iranian government has granted visa-free entry to Indian citizens for tourism purposes only.

The government warns that agents who promise visa-free entry into Iran for employment or other reasons may be in cahoots with these criminal gangs. All citizens are urged not to fall for such scams and put their safety at risk.
