Jeffrey Epstein allegedly offered Anil Ambani a ‘tall, blonde Swedish girl’, says report
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Documents released by the US Department of Justice reveal contacts between the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein and Indian industrialist Anil Ambani. According to the documents, the two exchanged text messages from early 2017 to 2019, discussing global issues, business, personal interests, and plans for personal meetings.
According to a Bloomberg report, on March 9, 2017, Anil Ambani asked Epstein in a message, "Who would you recommend?" Epstein replied, "A tall, blonde Swedish girl, so that the meeting would be interesting." The report states that Ambani responded tersely, saying he would make the arrangements.
Discussions of meetings in Paris and Davos
The documents also indicate that discussions between the two took place in Paris in 2017, though this meeting did not materialize. Furthermore, messages were exchanged between the two regarding Donald Trump's reactions to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January 2018.
In May 2019, when Anil Ambani announced his trip to New York, Epstein extended an invitation to meet him. According to the documents, Epstein also indicated that if Ambani wanted to meet with certain individuals privately, he could arrange it. Support staff also confirmed that the two met at Epstein's residence on Manhattan's Upper East Side. However, Anil Ambani's representative declined to comment on the matter.
According to email records previously obtained by Bloomberg News, Epstein ordered digital books on March 4, 2017, including Ambani & Sons and Storms in the Sea Wind: Ambani Versus Ambani. These books
are believed to have provided Epstein with insight into the Ambani family's history and business background.
Ambani family business split
The Reliance empire was split after a dispute between Anil Ambani and his elder brother Mukesh Ambani over the family business following the death of their father, Dhirubhai Ambani, in 2002. Anil Ambani leads the Reliance Group, which is active in the infrastructure and energy sectors, while Mukesh Ambani runs Reliance Industries Limited, which has businesses spanning oil, petrochemicals, telecom, retail and media.
From billionaire to financial crisis, the business fortunes of both brothers have seen a huge difference in the last decade. Anil Ambani, once a billionaire, has lost most of his wealth in recent years. He escaped jail time in 2019 when Mukesh Ambani settled a legal dispute by paying $80 million on court orders. Currently, investigations are underway in India into alleged bank loan fraud cases involving their companies. Recently, the Supreme Court has directed the investigating agencies to speed up the investigation into the alleged loan fraud case of around Rs 400 billion.
According to the documents, during a 2017 conversation, Epstein questioned Anil Ambani about his preferences in women. Ambani mentioned his business connections with Hollywood. That same year, actress Scarlett Johansson starred in the film Ghost in the Shell, co-produced by Reliance Entertainment, which also appeared in these messages.
