Security Forces Kill 3 Naxalites in Gumla Encounter, Weapons Including AK-47 Recovered

Gumla (The Uttam Hindu): Three militants of the banned Jharkhand Jan Mukti Morcha (JJMP) were killed in an encounter with police and security forces in the Lavadag forest of Ghagra police station area under Gumla district of Jharkhand on Saturday morning. During the search operation after the encounter, the police recovered the bodies of the three militants. A large quantity of weapons, including an AK-47 rifle and two INSAS rifles, were recovered from the spot.
Gumla SP Haris Bin Zaman said that he had received secret information that the militants of JJMP organization are planning to carry out a major incident and have gathered in the Ghaghra forest. Based on the information, a joint team of district police and Jharkhand Jaguar launched a special operation. As soon as the security forces started the search operation in Lavadag forest, the militants started firing. After this, in retaliation, the security forces killed three militants. However, during this time other militants managed to escape taking advantage of the dense forests. After the encounter, the search operation is going on in the area.
Earlier, on July 15, an encounter took place between CPI Maoist extremists and security forces in Birhordera forest under Gomia police station of Bokaro district. In this encounter, security forces killed two Naxalites including Naxalite Kunwar Manjhi, who had a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head, while a soldier of Cobra 209 battalion was martyred in this operation. One Naxalite was in uniform, while the other was in ordinary clothes.
It is noteworthy that Jharkhand Police has set a target to make the state Naxal-free this year. In Jharkhand, since the beginning of 2025, the police have killed 22 Naxalites. During this, 115 weapons, 8591 bullets, 176.5 kg of explosives and Rs 4,51,047 were seized from the Naxalites, which they had collected as levy. Also, 179 IEDs were discovered and deactivated. This is a major action of the police against Naxalism.
