New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held important bilateral talks on Saturday on the sidelines of the BRICS summit. Xi Jinping, who arrived in India after nearly seven years, discussed various issues related to the two countries' relations with Prime Minister Modi, including the border dispute, bilateral trade and investment. The meeting emphasized advancing India-China relations from a long-term and strategic perspective.
Welcoming Xi Jinping to India, Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude for China's positive cooperation at the BRICS Summit. He also appreciated China's support and cooperation during India's BRICS presidency. Modi said the two leaders now have an opportunity to discuss various aspects of bilateral cooperation.
Xi Jinping spoke of shared development
Chinese President Xi Jinping said China has always viewed its relations with India from a strategic and long-term perspective. He said that despite the two countries' different national conditions, India and China can learn from each other's strengths.
Xi Jinping said that by supporting each other, the two countries can achieve success together and move forward towards common development. He also stressed the need to push India-China relations forward on a path of sustained development.
Modi-Xi Jinping have met 21 times
Xi Jinping said that he received the invitation to visit India on his birthday, June 15. Referring to his 21 meetings with Prime Minister Modi so far, he said that many important consensuses have been reached during the meetings between the two leaders. These consensuses have contributed to the continued development of China-India relations.
Border and trade also discussed
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed border issues as well as trade and investment. This Modi-Xi meeting is considered significant amid the ups and downs in relations between the two countries in recent years. The talks have raised hopes for further dialogue and bilateral cooperation between India and China.
