Kolkata Law College Guard Arrested in Gang-Rape Case After Ignoring Victim’s Cries for Help

Kolkata (The Uttam Hindu) : On Saturday, the Kolkata Police arrested a security guard from South Kolkata Law College in connection with the gang-rape of a first-year student that occurred on the college campus. This marks the fourth arrest in the case, following the earlier detention of three individuals, including the main accused — a leader associated with the Trinamool Congress student wing.
According to police sources, the preliminary investigation revealed that the security guard, Pinaki Banerjee, was present during the assault but failed to intervene. He reportedly left his post at the request of the main accused, leaving the victim vulnerable. Despite the woman’s repeated calls for help, Banerjee neither responded nor informed college authorities or law enforcement about the crime. His negligence came to light during questioning, leading to his arrest.
