The actor, who had been battling age-related ailments, breathed his last surrounded by family members. His death marks the end of an era in the Telugu film industry, where he remained a towering figure for over four decades.

Beyond the silver screen, Kota also made a significant mark in politics. In 1999, he was elected as an MLA from Vijayawada East constituency as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His tenure was marked by active participation in public service and development initiatives in his region.

News of his passing triggered an outpouring of grief from fans, political leaders, and the film fraternity. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.
