Lalu Yadav's Family in Legal Trouble: Daily Hearings to Begin in Land-for-Jobs Scam Case

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Trouble is set to increase for Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) President Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family in the money laundering case related to land for jobs in the railways. In a major order, Delhi's Rouse Avenue Special Court has decided to conduct daily hearings in the case starting October 13th.
The court's order will expedite the trial of this high-profile case against Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, sons Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav, and daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav. In its order dated September 20, the court also clarified that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) should ensure that the accused are provided with clear and readable copies of all documents related to the case.
The case dates back to 2004 and 2009, when Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Railway Minister in the UPA government at the Centre. He is accused of accepting land and property in the names of his family members as bribes in exchange for granting Group D jobs to several individuals without issuing any advertisements. These recruitments were primarily made in the West Central Zone of the Indian Railways, based in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
Both the CBI and the ED are investigating this case. The ED has already filed a charge sheet and a supplementary charge sheet in the case. Now that the court has ordered daily hearings, it is clear that the case against the Lalu family will rapidly move towards its final stage.
