Delhi Police arrests Lashkar commander Shabbir Ahmad Lone near Bangladesh border; accused of planning attacks under ISI and Hafiz Saeed directions.

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a major counter-terror operation, the Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested Shabbir Ahmad Lone, a commander of the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, from near the Bangladesh border.
According to officials, Lone was operating a Lashkar module from a hideout near Dhaka. The arrest came after a nearly two-month-long “cat-and-mouse” operation. The mission was monitored by Police Commissioner Satish Golcha.
The special team was led by Additional Commissioner Pramod Kushwaha, ACP Lalit Negi, and Inspector Sunil Rajain, who had been tracking Lone’s activities for a long time.
Investigations revealed that Lone was involved in recruiting youths for terrorist activities in Delhi, Kolkata, and Tamil Nadu. Agencies stated that he was working under the directions of Inter-Services Intelligence and was planning major terror attacks in India.
Lone had earlier been arrested by Delhi Police in 2007 in a terrorism case. After being granted bail in 2019, he fled to Bangladesh, where he allegedly rebuilt a terror network for Lashkar and ISI while operating from Dhaka. Since then, he had remained a major challenge for security agencies.
The case resurfaced in 2026 when eight suspects arrested in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal were found linked to him. These suspects reportedly possessed photographs of key locations in Delhi and Bangladeshi passports, and were involved in reconnaissance of sensitive sites.
