Sasaram(The Uttam Hindu): Panic gripped multiple villages in Bihar’s Sasaram district on Sunday morning when a mad dog went on a violent rampage, attacking nearly 50 people and several cattle within just 90 minutes. The horrifying incident occurred in Nasriganj block, spreading fear across Atimiganj, Jamalpur, and Hariharganj villages.

The dog, believed to be rabid, launched its assault around 5 AM as villagers began their morning routines. Eyewitnesses reported that the animal indiscriminately bit anyone in sight—men, women, and even livestock. Victims suffered severe injuries, with bites on their arms, legs, and in some cases, the neck.

As the number of injured surged, chaos unfolded in the streets. Residents rushed to the local Primary Health Centre (PHC) where long queues formed as people anxiously awaited anti-rabies injections. PHC in-charge Dr. N.K. Arya confirmed that dozens of people were treated for dog bites and vaccinated immediately.

Tension peaked when the rabid dog entered another village, prompting locals to mobilize in groups, armed with sticks, to stop the animal. After chasing it for several minutes, the villagers finally managed to kill the dog, bringing some relief to the terror-stricken community.

Local leaders, including social worker Shyamlul Haque, Dr. Amrendra Kumar, and ward member Shamshad Ahmad Parsavi, visited the injured and urged authorities to act swiftly. Following the mayhem, Chief Councillor Shabnam Ara announced a strict drive to capture stray dogs and hand them over to the forest department to prevent such incidents in the future. The incident has sparked renewed concern over stray dog management and public health safety in rural India.
