Major Accident Averted: Helipad Sinks During President Murmu’s Helicopter Landing in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram (The Uttam Hindu): A major accident was narrowly avoided in Kerala on Wednesday when the helipad at Pramadom Stadium collapsed during the landing of President Droupadi Murmu’s helicopter. The incident reportedly occurred due to the helicopter’s weight, exposing a significant lapse in security arrangements.
Immediately after the incident, police and fire department emergency personnel stationed at the site acted swiftly. They manually pushed the helicopter away from the affected portion of the helipad to a safe area. Fortunately, neither the President nor any crew members were injured in the mishap.
President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to visit the famous Sabarimala Hill Shrine today. She arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday evening, where she was warmly received by Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Union Minister George Kurian, and other senior officials.
Despite the incident, the President’s official program continued as planned. She flew from Thiruvananthapuram to Nilakkal by helicopter and later proceeded to Pampa, the base station for Sabarimala Hill Shrine.
According to reports, President Murmu will perform traditional rituals at Pampa Ganapathi Temple, including the ‘Irumudi’ ceremony. Afterward, she will head to the Sabarimala Temple in a special vehicle. In light of her visit, elaborate security arrangements have been put in place at both Sabarimala and the base camp. The President is expected to return by this afternoon after offering prayers at the temple.
