Mamata Demands Special Parliament Session as India Ramps Up Global Anti-Terror Drive

Kolkata(The Uttam Hindu): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday called for a special session of the Parliament after the return of the members of the multi-party delegations that are on tours to foreign countries in order to showcase India's national consensus and firm approach towards countering terrorism in all its shades and forms.
The movement will seek to create global opinion against terror and isolate Pakistan, and the terror-sponsored organizations coming out of its territory that sustain and promote terror. In particular, India responded with Operation Sindoor to the Pahalgam terror attack, with the military conducting operations against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
In a statement posted on X by the West Bengal CM, she again reaffirmed the position of her party Trinamool Congress to firmly support any decision taken by the Central government in the national interest of security.
"I welcome an all-party delegation going to different nations as part of India's international outreach against terrorism. As I have reiterated time and again, the AITC is with whatever step the Union makes for the national interest and in the defence of our sovereignty. I call upon the Union Government to call a special sitting of Parliament on the return of the delegation, for I think the citizens of this great country have the first right to know about the recent war of words and the unfolding changes - BEFORE ANYONE ELSE," read the statement released by the Chief Minister.
Even though the Chief Minister has not explained what she intended to say with "anyone else", political analysts believe that with this she had somehow suggested American President Donald Trump's declaration of the ceasefire between India and Pakistan earlier this month via his X handle.
Earlier, Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also had called for a special session of the Parliament on Operation Sindoor. But after holding back from making the same demand for so long, Mamata Banerjee has finally made it when the members of the multi-party delegations are abroad on foreign tour.
