Modi gets emotional in Manipur after receiving huge public affection, meets victims of violence

Churachandpur (The Uttam Hindu): Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Manipur for the first time on Saturday, almost a year and a quarter after the outbreak of ethnic violence. When his helicopter could not fly due to heavy rains, he travelled 65 km by road to visit the violence-affected Churachandpur and met the victims. During this, seeing the unprecedented love of the people on the road, PM Modi became emotional and said that it was good that his helicopter did not fly today.
When Prime Minister Modi landed at Imphal airport on Saturday, it was raining heavily. Officials said that due to bad weather, it is not possible to go to Churachandpur by helicopter. According to sources, PM Modi immediately decided that no matter how much time it takes, he will go by road because he has to meet the victims of violence at any cost. After this, he reached Churachandpur by covering a distance of 65 km in about one and a half hours and met the victims of violence in relief camps.
PM Modi became emotional while addressing thousands of people who had come to listen to him despite heavy rain in Churachandpur. He said, I salute the spirit of the people of Manipur. Seeing the scenes I saw on the road today, my heart is saying that it was good that my helicopter did not fly today and I came by road. I can never forget this moment in my life, the love and affection everyone gave me while holding the tricolor in their hands throughout the way. I salute the people of Manipur.
It is worth noting that in May 2023, ethnic conflict broke out between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur. More than 250 people were killed in this violence and about 60,000 people were displaced, who are still living in temporary camps. This is the Prime Minister's first visit to Manipur after the violence.
