New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The government is expected to introduce the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Constitutional Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha on August 20. The proposed legislation seeks to restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir.

The statehood of Jammu and Kashmir was annulled on August 5, 2019, following the abrogation of Article 370. With this move, the erstwhile state was bifurcated into two Union Territories—Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

If introduced, the bill will mark a significant political step towards addressing the long-standing demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.
