Mumbai Airport and Taj Hotel Receive Bomb Threat Citing Afzal Guru; Security on High Alert

Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Panic spread after a bomb threat was received targeting Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. The threat came via an email sent to the Mumbai Airport Police. The threatening email referenced the “unjust hanging” of terrorists Afzal Guru and Saibabu Shankar as a motive for the planned attack.
Police and security agencies took immediate action and began an investigation. Although no suspicious object has been found in the initial probe, security arrangements have been tightened and put on high alert.

The Mumbai Police Cyber Cell and intelligence agencies are working to identify the sender of the email. Security officials are also trying to trace the email’s location and server. Authorities confirmed that the threat is being taken seriously and is being investigated from all possible angles.
It is notable that on April 22, a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, claimed the lives of 26 people. Since then, security has been heightened across the country. Following the attack, the central government launched strong retaliatory strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and intensified anti-terror operations in the Kashmir Valley.
After the Pahalgam attack, India sent a clear message to Pakistan that terrorism will not be tolerated at any cost. The Indian Army and security forces responded forcefully to cross-border attacks, putting Pakistan under international pressure. This was followed by a ceasefire declaration in border areas.
This threat to a sensitive city like Mumbai poses a serious test to the security apparatus. The Taj Hotel had earlier been the target of the deadly 26/11 terror attacks, and hence no threat can be taken lightly. Mumbai Police and other security agencies are investigating the matter with utmost vigilance. Citizens have also been urged to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious activity to the police.
