Surat (The Uttam Hindu): The troubles of Asaram's son, Narayan Sai, continue unabated. A new case has been filed against Narayan Sai, who is serving a life sentence for rape, for possessing and using a mobile phone in Surat's Lajpor Central Jail. The case was registered at the Sachin police station.

The jail administration received a tip-off on Thursday that Narayan Sai, lodged in high-security barrack number 1, was in possession of a mobile phone. Upon receiving the information, the jail squad immediately took action and thoroughly searched Narayan Sai's separate cell (cell number 1). During the search, a smartphone was found magnetized behind the iron main door. In addition to the phone, a Jio SIM card was also recovered.

The investigation revealed that Narayan Sai used his phone in a very cunning manner. He would immediately remove the battery and SIM card from the phone after completing a conversation. He kept the SIM card with him, while hiding the battery in the sentry room for safety. Vigilant jail staff recovered the battery hidden inside a keyhole in the sentry room door.

Based on a complaint from the jail administration, Sachin police have registered a case against Narayan Sai under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and violations of the Gujarat Prison Manual. Police are further investigating how and where Narayan Sai obtained the mobile phone and who he was using it to contact.

Speaking to IANS, ACP Nirav Gohil said, "Narayan Sai is a convicted prisoner in the Jahangirpura police station rape case. On Thursday, staff at Lajpor Central Jail received information that Narayan Sai had hidden a mobile phone inside his barrack. Acting on this information, the jail security squad searched barrack number 1, where he was kept in a separate cell. During the search, a mobile phone was found behind the cell gate, affixed to the iron door with a magnet, and was immediately recovered."

He said that possessing a mobile phone in jail is a serious offense. The phone, SIM card, and battery were recovered from Narayan Sai's cell phone. We immediately registered an FIR based on the jail administration's complaint. A thorough investigation is underway.
