Patna (The Uttam Hindu): After the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a historic victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, preparations for forming the new government have intensified. The grand oath-taking ceremony of the new NDA government will be held on 20 November at the iconic Gandhi Maidan in Patna, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to be present.

The NDA secured a massive majority by winning 202 out of 243 seats. Among these, the BJP won 89 seats, JDU 85, LJP (Ramvilas) 19, and other allies secured 9 seats.

Nitish Kumar to Resign Today

As part of the formal process to set up the new government, JDU chief and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has called the final meeting of the current cabinet at 11:30 AM today. In this meeting, a proposal to dissolve the present Assembly will be passed. Immediately after this, Nitish Kumar will visit Raj Bhavan to submit his resignation to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. The term of the current Assembly ends on 22 November, so all procedures are being completed in advance.

Who Will Be the Next Chief Minister?

After the resignation, a meeting of the JDU legislature party will take place where Nitish Kumar is likely to be elected as the leader. This will be followed by meetings of the BJP legislature party and then the NDA legislature party. In the joint meeting, the leader of the alliance will be chosen, after which an NDA delegation will stake claim to form the government before the Governor.

However, it is not yet officially confirmed whether Nitish Kumar will take oath as Chief Minister again on 20 November or whether another NDA leader will be sworn in.

Grand Arrangements at Gandhi Maidan

Preparations for the oath-taking ceremony are in full swing. Gandhi Maidan has been closed to the public until 20 November to ensure smooth arrangements. Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union ministers, chief ministers of NDA-ruled states, and senior alliance leaders are expected to attend the ceremony.
