New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : The Indian Railways has announced a significant change in the booking process for Tatkal tickets. From July 1, 2025, passengers will be required to verify their Aadhaar card and OTP (One-Time Password) to book Tatkal tickets.

Key Changes

- Aadhaar Verification: IRCTC accounts must be linked with Aadhaar card to book Tatkal tickets.

- OTP Authentication: Aadhaar-based OTP authentication will be mandatory for booking Tatkal tickets from July 15.

- Restrictions on Ticket Agents: Railway ticket agents will not be able to book tickets till 30 minutes before the Tatkal ticket booking opens.

Impact on Passengers

- Passengers without Aadhaar-linked IRCTC accounts will not be able to book Tatkal tickets from July 1.

- The new rule aims to curb fraud and ensure secure booking of Tatkal tickets.

How to Link IRCTC Account with Aadhaar

- Login to IRCTC website

- Go to 'My Account' and click on 'Link Your Aadhaar'

- Enter Aadhaar number and name

- Fill OTP received on registered mobile number

- Submit to complete the linking process


The Ministry of Railways has taken this step to prevent fraudulent activities and ensure a smooth booking process for genuine passengers. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had earlier announced this decision, and now a circular has been issued to implement the new rule.
