New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): While the world celebrates the New Year, Pakistan continues its nefarious activities. Security agencies have been alerted after a Pakistani drone was spotted in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on New Year's Day. Upon receiving information about the drone, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a search operation in the area.


Pakistan's nefarious New Year's Day: Drone spotted in Indian territory; Army continues search operation : According to reports, the Pakistani drone entered the Indian border from the Khadi Karmada area of Poonch, near the Line of Control. The drone remained in Indian territory for more than five minutes. Security agencies are investigating the drone's flight path and a search operation is underway in the entire area.


It is noteworthy that the Jammu and Kashmir administration recently banned the use of virtual private networks (VPNs) in some parts of the union territory for security reasons. The administration stated that VPNs pose a threat to national security and the potential for inciting unrest. This is the second time since the ban that drone activity has been observed near the Line of Control.


This is the second incident of a drone sighting near the India-Pakistan border within the last 24 hours. Previously, a suspicious drone was spotted in the Phulpur area of Samba district, which briefly remained within Indian territory before returning. No incriminating material was recovered during the investigation.


It is noteworthy that following Operation Sindoor in May 2025, there was an increase in drone and missile attacks from Pakistan, which escalated tensions between the two countries. During that time, Pakistan sent several drones into the Indian border, which were shot down by the Indian Army. In light of the current incident, the Army remains fully alert and is taking drone activity seriously and conducting search operations
