New Year’s gift to former fire warriors: 50% reservation in BSF constable recruitment

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Border Security Force (BSF) has given great news to the former Agniveers before the new year. The Union Home Ministry (MHA) has increased the reservation for former Agniveers for Constable (General Duty) recruitment in BSF from 10 percent to 50 percent. The Central Government has amended the BSF, General Duty Cadre (Non-Gazetted) Recruitment Rules, 2015, exercising the powers conferred under sub-section (2) of Section 141 of the Border Security Force Act, 1968. These amended rules have been named BSF General Duty Cadre (Non-Gazetted) Recruitment (Amendment) Rules, 2025, which have come into effect from December 18, 2025.
Reservation will be like this in every recruitment year
According to the new rules,
* 50% vacancies for ex-fire warriors
* 10% vacancies for ex-servicemen
* Up to 3% vacancies will be reserved for direct recruitment of Combatised Constables (Tradesmen).
The recruitment process will be conducted in two phases
In the first phase, 50 percent of the reserved posts will be filled by the nodal force for former Agniveers. In the second phase, the remaining 47 percent of posts (including 10 percent for ex-servicemen) will be filled for candidates other than former Agniveers through the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). Vacancies remaining unfilled in a particular category in the first phase will also be filled in this phase. Vacancies for women candidates will be calculated annually by the Director General of BSF based on work requirements.
Under the rules, former Agniveers will benefit from direct recruitment and age relaxation. They are also completely exempted from the Physical Standard Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET). According to officials, this decision was made considering that Agniveers have already undergone rigorous physical training in the Army.
