New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A petition filed in the Supreme Court to save Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, who is imprisoned in Yemen, from the death penalty was heard on Friday. In this case, an organization called 'Save Nimisha Priya Action Council' sought permission from the court to allow them to go to Yemen and talk to the family members of the deceased.

The organization believes that there is a possibility of pardoning or reducing Nimisha's sentence through talks with the family of the deceased. In such a situation, the Supreme Court told the petitioner to give a memorandum to the government. The government will take a decision on this according to its own. We cannot say anything on this. The next hearing of this case will now be on August 16. During the hearing, the petitioner's lawyer told the Supreme Court that Nimisha's death sentence has been stopped for the time being. He thanked the Indian government for this. The lawyer said that now he needs to go to Yemen and talk to the family of the deceased so that a positive solution can be found in this case.

On the other hand, Attorney General R. Venkataramani on behalf of the Government of India told the court that the government does not want any wrong step to be taken in this case, which may have negative consequences. The aim of the government is to bring Nimisha Priya back to India safely. He assured the court that the government is working with full caution and sensitivity in this matter. Let us tell you, nurse Nimisha Priya, who hails from Kerala, was sentenced to death in a murder case in Yemen. Nurse Nimisha Priya was living in Yemen since 2008. She had started a clinic, but had to make Yemeni citizen Talal Abdul Mehdi a partner to comply with local law.

According to media reports, Talal Abdul Mehdi later started harassing Nimisha. He started grabbing her money and also allegedly snatched her passport. In an attempt to get the passport back in the year 2017, Nimisha gave an injection to Talal Abdul Mehdi to make him unconscious, but this led to Mehdi's death. Nimisha Priya has been sentenced to death in this case.
