Patna (The Uttam Hindu): Bihar politics has become increasingly volatile these days. Following Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's resignation, new discussions have begun regarding his son, Nishant Kumar. Meanwhile, Harinarayan Singh has claimed that there is a consensus on appointing Nishant Kumar as Deputy Chief Minister in the new government that will be formed following the Chief Minister's resignation.
Harinarayan Singh, MLA from Harnaut in Nalanda district, told a private channel that the legislative party meeting held at the Chief Minister's residence decided to appoint Nishant Kumar as Deputy Chief Minister in the new government. He also stated that Nishant would soon formally join the Janata Dal (United). According to Singh, being a member of the legislature is essential to holding a constitutional post. Therefore, it is likely that Nishant Kumar could become a member of the Legislative Council by being elected in the biennial elections to the Legislative Council in April. However, it is not necessary that he contest the seat vacated by his father's resignation.
MLA Harinarayan Singh also said that it is not yet clear whether Nishant Kumar will be appointed Deputy Chief Minister immediately after the formation of the new government or after some time. The party's top leadership will make a final decision in this regard at the appropriate time. He also said that it would be premature to comment on the speculation surrounding the appointment of two Deputy Chief Ministers, as the meeting only discussed Nishant Kumar.
Speculation about the Chief Minister's position is also rife.
It's worth noting that discussions about Nishant Kumar's entry into politics have intensified amid reports that his father, Nitish Kumar, is stepping down as Chief Minister and entering the Rajya Sabha. Interestingly, Nitish Kumar has long been a critic of dynastic politics, but the possibility of his son entering active politics has sparked a new debate in political circles.
Meanwhile, speculation is rife about new political equations within the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar. There is talk that the post of Chief Minister may now go to the Bharatiya Janata Party, while the JDU may demand two Deputy Chief Ministers and retain the Home Ministry. Currently, two BJP leaders, Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, are Deputy Chief Ministers in Bihar, while Samrat Choudhary holds the Home Department. Consequently, major changes may be seen in Bihar politics in the coming days.
