Nitish Kumar's Poll Push: 125 Units of Free Electricity Every Month in Bihar

Patna (The Uttam Hindu): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has given a big relief to the general public before the upcoming assembly elections. He has announced that from August 1, 2025, all domestic consumers of the state will be given free electricity up to 125 units every month. Consumers will start getting its benefits from the bill of the month of July.
Now 125 units of electricity is free every month in Bihar, CM Nitish Kumar's big announcement before the elections: The Chief Minister tweeted, "We have been providing electricity to everyone at cheap rates since the beginning. Now it has been decided that domestic consumers will not have to pay any fee for up to 125 units of electricity."
Around 1 crore 67 lakh families will get direct benefit from this scheme, especially poor and middle class families. Apart from this, Nitish Kumar said that the state government will promote solar energy in the coming three years. Solar panels will be installed on the roofs of houses or nearby public places with the consent of the consumers.
Under the Kutir Jyoti Yojana, the state government will bear the entire cost of setting up solar power plants for extremely poor families. The rest of the consumers will also be given financial assistance by the government. The government estimates that with these efforts, the state will be able to get up to 10,000 MW of solar power in the coming years, which will end the power crisis to a great extent.
