Nitish Kumar Doubles Honorarium for Mid-Day Meal Cooks, Other Workers

Patna (The Uttam Hindu): Ahead of the 2025 assembly elections in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has made another important announcement for the state government employees. In a major decision on Friday, the government has announced to double the honorarium of mid-day meal cooks, night guards, and physical education and health instructors working in government schools. The Chief Minister himself made this announcement through his social media post.
CM Nitish Kumar said in his post, "Cooks, night guards and physical education and health instructors have played an important role in strengthening the education system. Keeping this in mind, it has been decided to double the honorarium of these workers by increasing it respectably."
According to the information released by the Education Department, the honorarium of cooks working in Mid Day Meal has been increased from ₹ 1650 to ₹ 3300 per month. Similarly, the honorarium of night guards posted in secondary and higher secondary schools has also been increased from ₹ 5000 to ₹ 10000.
The government has also given a big gift to physical education and health instructors. Their honorarium has been doubled from ₹8000 to ₹16000 per month. Along with this, it has also been decided to increase their annual salary increment from ₹200 to ₹400.
The Chief Minister also mentioned in his post that when his government was formed in 2005, the state's education budget was only ₹4366 crore, which has now increased to ₹77690 crore. He said that the education system has improved drastically due to the appointment of a large number of teachers and development of school infrastructure.
It is worth noting that earlier the Nitish government had also increased the honorarium of Asha workers and Mamta workers, which is being seen as a big effort to appease the employees before the election year.
