Nitish Kumar’s Big Poll Push: ₹10,000 Cash Support for Women, Up to ₹2 Lakh Aid Ahead of Bihar Elections

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Just months before the crucial Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has rolled out a major scheme aimed at women voters. In a cabinet meeting, the government approved the “Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana” (Chief Minister Women Employment Scheme), under which one woman from every family in Bihar will receive financial aid to start self-employment.
The scheme begins with a first installment of ₹10,000, which will be directly transferred to eligible women’s bank accounts starting September 2025—significantly, just ahead of the election schedule announcement.
But this is only the beginning. According to Nitish Kumar, after six months of monitoring the businesses started by women, the government will provide up to ₹2 lakh in total financial assistance based on requirements.
Nitish Kumar highlighted on social media:
“Since 2005, our government has consistently worked for women empowerment. This new scheme is a historic step to strengthen women’s economic independence, and its impact will be long-term and transformative.”
In addition, the CM announced that to promote sales of women’s products, special “Haat Bazaars” (local markets) will be developed from villages to cities, creating a wider platform for women entrepreneurs. This announcement is widely being seen as a political masterstroke to win over Bihar’s large women voter base, who played a decisive role in past elections.
