No contempt proceedings against lawyer who tried to throw shoe at CJI: Court's decision explained

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : Contempt proceedings will not be initiated against the lawyer who tried to throw a shoe at Chief Justice BR Gavai. A bench said that the Chief Justice himself had refused to take action against the accused lawyer. The court said that shouting slogans and throwing shoes in the court are contempt of court but it is up to the concerned judge whether to take action against the person concerned or not. The court said that issuing a contempt notice will give unnecessary importance to the lawyer, let this incident die down on its own.
Following a shoe being thrown at CJI BR Gavai in the court during a hearing in October, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) had cancelled the membership of Rakesh Kishore, the lawyer who tried to throw the shoe, and filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking criminal contempt action against him in this regard.
