Love Turned into Punishment: Couple Tied Like Oxen, Whipped Brutally in Shocking Village Ritual – Watch the Horrific Video

Odisha(The Uttam Hindu): In a shocking incident from Odisha’s Rayagada district, a couple in love faced a horrifying punishment for marrying against tribal customs. The duo was yoked like oxen and made to plough a field, while also being publicly whipped, as seen in a viral video circulating on social media.
The punishment was carried out in front of village elders and community members. The video shows the man and woman bearing a wooden yoke on their shoulders and being treated like cattle for the "crime" of falling in love. After a ritual was performed before the village deity, the elders reportedly whipped them and banished them from the village. Their current whereabouts remain unknown.
The couple has been identified as Lak Sarka and Kodia Sarka. Despite being aunt (locally referred to as Piusi Nani) and nephew, they were reportedly in a romantic relationship. As per tribal traditions prevalent in many parts of Odisha, marriages within the same gotra (clan) are strictly forbidden, as they are considered equivalent to incestuous relationships.

A local villager, Shyamdhar Miniyaka, stated, “According to our tribal customs, people from the same gotra are considered siblings or close kin. Such marriages are a grave violation.” Following the revelation of the relationship, village elders held a traditional council meeting and delivered the punishment publicly. Authorities are yet to take legal action against those involved in the brutal display of vigilante justice.
