New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Indian intelligence agencies are closely monitoring a possible transfer of drone technology (TOT) between Pakistan and Ukraine. According to a senior official, the deal has been finalized between a European drone manufacturer and Pakistan's state-owned defense company Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), which Pakistan is trying to keep secret.

Operation Sindoor still lingers in fear…Pakistan to buy drones from this country, India keeping a close eye: This information comes at a time when Pakistan is busy enhancing its drone warfare capabilities. Following 'Operation Sindoor' in May 2025, the Pakistani Army was in contact with Ukraine, Russia, and several European drone companies. It wants to acquire medium-altitude and long-range (MALE) drones. If this technology deal is completed, Pakistan's drone capabilities could increase significantly.

During Operation Sindoor, Pakistan launched multiple attacks using drones and other weapons along the western border, which were successfully thwarted by Indian defense forces. This incident highlighted the importance of drone technology and the challenges it faces in the future.

The use of drone warfare is increasing worldwide. In the Russia-Ukraine conflict, drones are targeting power plants, military bases, and industrial facilities. Pakistan is seeking to learn from this tactic and enhance its own capabilities.

Meanwhile, Northern Army Command Commander Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma recently reviewed drone warfare preparedness, where he was briefed on the capabilities of modern drones and current preparedness. He emphasized the need for innovation, technological excellence, and continuous improvement towards multi-domain operations.

Indian agencies believe that Pakistan's growing drone capabilities could pose a new challenge to border security. Experts say that India will also need to further strengthen its drone technology. Although the government has not issued an official statement on this issue, military vigilance and preparedness have been increased.
