Over 60 IndiGo flights cancelled today; Government says flight slots will be reduced and given to other airlines

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): After a full week of continuous flight cancellations, IndiGo operations have largely returned to normal, with most of its aircraft back in service. However, the airline has still cancelled more than 60 flights today.
According to information on IndiGo’s official website, a total of 67 flights have been cancelled for the day. These include flights from major airports such as Chennai, Bengaluru, and Thiruvananthapuram. Following repeated disruptions, the government has also stepped in.

In the past seven days, IndiGo cancelled more than 4,500 flights. The government has now stated that it will reduce IndiGo’s flight operations and reallocate some of its slots to other airlines.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu warned IndiGo in Parliament yesterday, saying that an inquiry has begun. He added that strict action will be taken, setting an example for all airlines in the future.
Naidu also mentioned the need to introduce new airlines in the country. He said India requires at least five major airlines, and this is the right time to launch new carriers. IndiGo currently operates over 2,200 flights daily, which will now be reduced.
